Bennett Colin Coyne
The Story - How’d it go down?
On Friday (November 24 - when the Chicken Bowl was out of the way), Jamie and I started doing everything we could to help the baby move towards delivery. We joined the shopping craze and walked around the mall all day. We got our Christmas tree, some Christmas gift ideas, and a new digital camera to start capturing Bennett’s life with right from the beginning.

When we went to bed that night, Jamie started to feel her strongest contractions yet. When they got to the point that they were painful, we called our doctor, and she told us to com in (2:00 AM). We gathered all the things we thought we’d need to survive living at the hospital for 2 days, called Jamie’s mom, and headed to the hospital.Jamie’s mother, brother, and sister accompanied us to the hospital, and through the birth.Jamie’s brother Colin strategically positioned himself in the corner of the room so he only had a limited angle on what was happening. My sister was staying up late knitting Bennett a baby blanket knowing he was coming any day. As she finished it at 2:30 AM, and said “Now Bennett can come”, Jamie’s water broke as we walked into the emergency room at Swedish Hospital on Capitol Hill.Jamie had been 3 cm dilated for two weeks now, and was 5 cm dilated the first time we got checked at the hospital. We were moved into a birthing sweet right away, and Jamie’s tentative plans for a natural birth turned into “Get me an epidural ASAP”. After she got her epidural, life was all good, and we just watched the contraction happen on a printout instead of in Jamie’s painful expressions.
Jamie was amazing and pushed so hard for the 1.5 hours of active labor. She continues to blow my mind with her hard work and dedication with feeding, patience, and sleep deprivation. She shows how madly in love she is with her new little boy.
We’ve gotten about three hours of sleep in the last three days, but now we’re home with our new wonderful son. God continues to bless us beyond our imagination. We are so grateful for all he has given.
